Whether you are visiting Rotterdam for it’s architecture, magnificent museums, the good vibe or it’s convenient location in the Netherlands (perfect for daytrips to the rest of the country): you can always spoil yourself a bit extra by staying in a hotel with a great view.

These hotels give you a spectacular view on the city AND an extra touch, for a memorable stay. Read the last paragraphs if you are looking for nice restaurants, my favorite coffeebars (NOT coffeshops) and all you need to know about gay Rotterdam and it’s gay nightlife.

S.S. Rotterdam

This cruiseship from the late 50’s is now a stylish hotel that makes you feel like you’re on holiday in Mad Men-style. You have a great view on the harbour or the city and if you take a watertaxi to the citycenter, you will have the most amazing view on the city you can get: from the river! S.S. Rotterdam is a unique experience as you are sleeping on a cruiseship with a rich history!

Bilderberg Parkhotel

To Rotterdammers (citizens of Rotterdam) the Bilderberg Parkhotel is known for one of the best kept secret gardens to enjoy a fancy lunch. It is a beautiful rustique garden in the center of the city. But visitors love the view from the new building even more (the first building of the hotel was built in 1922). No matter on what side of the hotel your room is, the view is outstanding. You can see the harbour (the largest of Europe), The Erasmusbrug, the city and the new Central Station. One of my favorite places in the hotel is the recently renovated lobby with free WiFi for everyone. And if you are a foodie: the hotel’s restaurant was re-opened in June 2014 and is a popular place for lunch, high tea and dinner.

Nhow

The new designhotel Nhow Rotterdam is located in one of the city’s architectural highlights: De Rotterdam. You’ll have a great stay here with the bar being a local hotspot for cocktails with a view and of course the location: next to the worldfamous Erasmus Bridge and with a great view at the skyline of Rotterdam. Hipster indoor-foodmarket Fenix Foodfactory is also around the corner and the Nieuwe Luxor Theater just across the street.

Euromast

With only two rooms this Rotterdam landmark is a place to stay for a very special occasion. During daytime you’ll have to share your view with the tourists visiting the platform, but at night the Euromast is all yours!

Manhattan

Opposite to the Rotterdam Central Station, the Manhattan hotel is most likely to be the first thing you’ll see when you arrive in Rotterdam by train or bus. During the IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam) or North Sea Jazz Festival it is very likely that you’ll spot some stars in this convenient hotel. But throughout the year you will probably have one of the best views on the city, the harbour and the sky if you are staying in on the higher floors.  A look at the new Central Station will be your wake-up view at breakfast.

Citizen M

With the Cube Houses and the new Markthal as its neighbours, Citizin M hotel Rotterdam has another nice feature: the view at the Oude Haven (old harbour). This picturesque harbour is a popular place for drinks and dinner and somehow gives you the impression that you are in a small town instead of the country’s 2nd largest city. But the best thing about this hotel is the lobby. Even as a local I go there often to blog or chill out. The atmosphere is great and it feels like a livingroom. A bit larger than mine though 😉

Hotel New York

The famous Hotel New York has a rich history and is a stop on almost every city tour. The hotel looks small between the skyscarpers, but it also gives you an impression on how early 20th century grandeur must have been. During summer the terrace is one of the best spots for a romantic sunset, but througout the year the nicest rooms in this hotel give you that same romantic feeling. Look towards the harbour and dream away.

Mainport Hotel

The Mainport Hotel by Inntel has a great location: view on the EramusBridge and close to the vibrant and arty treet Witte de With. Rooms are comfortable and the restaurants are also very nice. The view on the Leuvehaven is unique: the Ships of the Harbourmuseum are right in front of you and you get to see a view that not many tourists will find in their cityguides.

Coffee, Restaurants and gay nightlife in Rotterdam

This list of hotels is definitely not complete (check this Dutch article with the hotels with a view on the Eramusbrug). But I chose to write down the most popular places as it is more likely to find a nice crowd there. Whether you decide to stay in one of these hotels or in another, I’m sure you will find a nice crowd in these burgerbars, Thai restaurants or at my favorite places for coffee in Rotterdam. If you are looking for gay nightlife, check my previous post on that or read ‘Gay Rotterdam is hot and happening‘.
